Gosport Borough prepared for life in the Conference South with a 2-1 friendly win over Southern Premier League division Weymouth.

Alex Pike’s men finished their pre-season campaign in style as goals from Andy Forbes and Danny Smith sealed a hard-fought victory against the Terras.

Borough can now focus their attention on next Saturday’s visit of Dover, which will mark the first time the Privett Park club has played in the sixth tier of English football in their history.

The Hawks ended their pre-season preparations with an entertaining 4-3 defeat against a Charlton Athletic XI at Westleigh Park.

The Hawks unveiled new signing, ex-Wycombe Wanderers, Gillingham and Grays Athletic striker Dennis Oli, in their starting line-up.

And Oli made a scoring debut for his new club as the hosts led 3-1 at one stage thanks to Sahr Kabba and a Morgan Fox own goal – before the Addicks mounted a late comeback.

In the Wessex League, Hayling United ended Fareham Town’s impressive start to the new season with a shock 2-1 victory in the league cup.

The Reds, who had recorded a win and a draw from their first two Premier division games, saw their unbeaten run ended as the Humbugs’ star striker, Dan Sharpe, taught them a harsh lesson with an impressive display at the College ground.

His brace confirmed a cup upset for the division one side, as Graham Lindsey’s headed goal proved to be nothing more than a consolation for the Reds.

Winchester City extended their unbeaten start to life in the premier division as they brushed aside the challenge of AFC Portchester.

First-half goals from Ben Osborne and Leigh Mills condemned the Royals to defeat.

Bradey Norton and Louis Castles went closest for the visitors.

Meanwhile, in the Ryman League, Bognor made a losing start following a 3-0 defeat at home to Grays.
