GOSPORT BOROUGH will have no fear when they take on Bath City in the FA Cup third qualifying round.

Alex Pike’s men will travel to the Blue Square Bet South club on Saturday, October 6.

Borough earned the chance of another big FA Cup pay day with a confident 2-0 win over Bideford at Privett Park on Saturday.

That moved Gosport to within two victories of the first round proper, when the likes of Pompey enter the competition.

And despite Bath sitting mid-table in the division above Gosport’s Southern League premier, Borough assistant manager, Mick Catlin, believes his side can go to Twerton Park with the pressure off them.

He said: ‘It is a tough draw away from home but we can go there with nothing to lose.

‘We did that at Dorchester last season in the FA Trophy and came away with a shock 2-1 win.

‘There are a number of players in our squad who have played at Conference South level and their experience will be vital.

‘We are really looking forward to it because it is a big, old-fashioned football ground steeped in history.

‘Being the FA Cup, there is likely to be a big crowd in and that can provide an important financial boost.

‘We are confident we can go there and come away with something, even if it means bringing them back to our place.

‘Everyone knows the FA Cup can throw up a few surprises and we don’t see why we cannot be part of that.’
