Gosport Borough’s FA Trophy adventure came to an end as Blue Square Bet Premier side Braintree Town grabbed a 1-0 victory at Privett Park this afternoon.

But Alex Pike’s Southern League battlers can be proud of their first round display, as only a second-half Dean Wells’ header separated the sides.

In the Ryman League, in-form Bognor were left frustrated with a 0-0 draw at Walton & Hersham.

Moneyfields had a better afternoon in the Wessex League – winning their premier division encounter against Laverstock & Ford 2-0 at Dover Road.

First-half goals from Rob Evans and Steve Hutchings put the home side firmly in control.

In the same division, Christchurch defeated Fareham 3-1 in a scoreline that flattered the hosts.

Goals from Mark Smith (2) and Ben Osborne put the home side three-up, before Wayne Boud’s late goal gave the visitors something to show for an improved second half.

A patched-up Hayling United also tasted defeat – losing 3-0 at Bournemouth Poppies.
