Nic Ciardini was the match-winner for the Hawks as they edged a Boxing Day thriller 3-2 over local rivals Gosport Borough.

In a cracking game played out in terrible weather conditions, Borough struck first when Matt Paterson opened the scoring before Ben Wright notched a header before the break.

Justin Bennettt then restored Borough’s lead early in the second half from close range but the Hawks hit back again when Wright drilled home a smart low finish.

But with the game heading towards a draw, Brett Poate’s costly slip allowed Ciardini through on goal with eight minutes remaining.

And he made no mistake, blasting home to claim the victory for Lee Bradbury’s side – a result which saw them draw level on points with the Privett Park outfit in the Vanarama Conference South table.
