Former Pompey star has Hawks in his sights

The former Pompey midfielder, who famously netted a spectacular stoppage-time equaliser for the Blues against derby rivals Southampton in 2012, joined Leatherhead last month.

He is part of the overhaul at the Surrey club, which has been inspired by new boss Jimmy Bullard.

The Hawks beat the Tanners 3-1 on the opening day of the Ryman League premier division season.

But Westleigh Park manager Lee Bradbury is expecting a different proposition at Fetcham Grove tonight (7.45pm).

And Norris, who netted eight goals in 42 games for Pompey, will be among those bidding to derail the Hawks’ race for a swift return to National League South.

Bradbury said: ‘We expect a tougher game this time.

‘Jimmy Bullard has brought in some good players, including David Norris.

‘Since going in there he has given them the confidence to play.

‘We watched them against Leiston recently and they showed a lot of spirit.

‘They were 3-1 down late on but fought back to draw 3-3.

‘There is a nice playing surface up there, so we have to look to go and play our football.’

There is confidence in the Hawks’ camp after remaining unbeaten in the league since the opening day of the season.

They are second in the table and among the top scorers – with 26 goals in 11 games.

Bradbury knows if his side carry on where they left off against Harlow Town last time out they will pose the home side lots of problems.

He is likely to stick with the same side that delivered a 5-2 win over the Essex side on Saturday.

In the last away game, at Worthing, Bradbury rested Matt Paterson only to bring him off the bench at half-time.

He made all the difference and it will be surprising if he and Jason Prior, who scored four times against Harlow, don’t start together at Leatherhead.

The only absentee is defender Lee Molyneaux who is serving the second game of a three-match suspension.

‘Unlike last season we have got a good away record so far,’ said Bradbury.

‘We have scored in every one of our league games.

‘It would be nice to keep a clean sheet but winning games is most important.

‘We need to keep this going and maintain the pressure on Leiston at the top.’
