The Hawks slipped deeper into trouble with a 4-1 National League South defeat against Margate at Hartsdown Park.

It also stretched the visitors’ run without a win in the league to eight games.

Warren Cummings grabbed a late consolation goal but the home side added a fourth late on from the penalty spot.

Brilliant Bognor kicked up a storm with four goals in the first 31 minutes to stun Canvey Island at Nyewood Lane in an emphatic 5-0 Ryman League premier division win for the hosts.

Jason Prior was the hat-trick hero – completing his treble on 57 minutes – as new-boy Chike Kandi, on loan from Brighton, impressed on his debut, netting twice.

Horndean lost out in the Wessex League Cup after falling to Wessex League division one leaders Portland United 2-1 after extra-time.

The Deans battled back from a 1-0 half-time deficit through Harry Potter’s goal to force extra-time at Grove Corner.

But the hosts struck on 112 minutes through Ed Bastick to pull off an upset.

Petersfield Town’s Southern League central division clash with Potters Bar Town was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch at Love Lane.

Moneyfields and AFC Portchester’s Wessex League premier division games also fell foul to the weather – as did Fareham Town’s Wessex League Cup tie with Alton Town.
