Steve Hutchings’ brilliant brace helped in-form Moneyfields to a 3-1 victory over Alton Town last night.
The win keeps Miles Rutherford’s men in fourth place in the Wessex League premier division – and means they have lost just once in their past 17 matches.
Moneys tore into Alton from the start, with Hutchings and Luke Middleton engineering a move that presented James Lacey with a chance, which he fired over from the edge of the area.
In the next raid, the hosts took the lead thanks to Conor Bailey getting in a cross for Dan Gauntlett to meet with a bullet header that sent the ball racing into the roof of the net.
Before Alton regained their composure, Moneys struck gold again as skipper Russell Rackley made tracks along the line, before crossing the ball to Hutchings who turned his marker and blasted a shot into the net.
More pressure followed as Moneys penned Alton into their own half, Hutchings bringing fine, diving saves from Craig Atkinson on two occasions.
Just before the interval, Alton rallied for the first time and Moneyfields keeper Cameron Scott did well to claim a cross that Alex Lowley had propelled in under the crossbar.
Another chance fell for Hutchings after the break – the striker meeting a Bailey corner, but firing wildly over.
Moments later, play broke in favour of Alton who raced to the other end and striker Steve Brown got on the end of a cross from Simba Malambo to pull a goal back from point-blank range.
But any thoughts they had of travelling back up the Meon Valley with a point were wrecked on the hour as Hutchings chased a ball out of defence, outpaced his marker and rifled in a third.
As Alton capitulated, Gauntlett was inches from a fourth, as was Hutchings when he danced through to clip a shot past the post.
