HAYLING UNITED recorded a superb 3-2 victory at Totton & Eling last night in the Wessex League premier division.
Goals from Lee Tigwell, Glynn Cooper and Steve Blackwell were enough to give the Humbugs the points.
They were also thankful to keeper Luke Hutchings who saved a penalty and made several other good stops.
Steve Poulton’s Hayling came under intense pressure from the start as hosts Totton & Eling looked to get their season back on track after a run of defeats.
The Humbugs rocked the sparse crowd at Miller’s Park, though, as they took the lead on 15 minutes.
Tigwell fired a free-kick around Totton’s defensive wall and high into the net.
Hayling’s George Vince was then penalised for a foul on Matt Monk in the area.
The referee had to point to the spot but Hayling keeper Luke Hutchings pushed Monk’s penalty around the post for a corner.
Hutchings was forced to pick the ball out of his net on 25 minutes.
Totton’s Sam Carter found the bottom corner with a good shot for 1-1.
Hayling responded well and scored a spectacular second.
Glynn Cooper noticed Totton keeper Tony Harrop off his line and arrowed a stunning shot high into the net.
Hutchings then denied James Seasey an equaliser, before Hayling, impressively, extended their lead.
Alex Easton and Cooper combined to set up Steve Black who cut inside his marker to thump home.
Impressive keeper Hutchings kept the Humbugs in command early in the second half.
He raced out to block a close-range effort from Totton striker Craig Feeney.
Hayling threatened a fourth, on the break, when Cooper crossed for Easton but he could only scoop his shot over the top.
Then on 85 minutes, Carter reduced the deficit with a sublime free-kick.
Hayling came under massive pressure late on but held strong to take the points.
