Wild celebrations broke out around Love Lane as Petersfield gained the vital three points they needed to earn promotion from the Wessex League premier division and claim the league title.

A single second-half Lewis Hyde goal was enough to beat Lymington 1-0 and ensure that the Rams walked away victorious and clinched back-to-back promotions.

The game got off to a tentative start as both sides gave possession away far too easily.

Petersfield had the first real effort after 13 minutes when a deep free-kick into the box looked for Jamie Ford unmarked in front of goal, but the cross was just too high for him.

Three minutes later, Ian Saunders’ side had a goal disallowed.

The ball was hoisted high up into the air and was dropped by Lymington keeper Stuart Williamson under pressure from Warren Hunt, only for the linesman to flag for a foul on the goalkeeper.
