The Hawks were made to pay the penalty as they were defeated 2-1 by Welling United at Westleigh Park tonight.

Mark Nwokeji’s second-half miss from the penalty spot proved costly as the visitors stole victory with a Andy Pugh goal on 87 minutes.

Welling took the lead in the 43rd minute when Louis Cumbers slotted home a penalty.

The Hawks responded immediately when Craig Braham-Barrett equalised on the stroke of half-time.

And the home side were then presented with a chance to take the lead for the first time in the game.

However, Nowokeji blew his chance from 12 yards as the Hawks recorded their first defeat of the new season.

In the Southern League south & west division, Gosport drew 0-0 against Thatcham.
