Gosport Borough boss Alex Pike oversaw the greatest day in his club’s history and joked: The players can have a night off!

Pike’s side are embroiled in a Skrill South relegation battle but upset the odds at Skrill North league leaders North Ferriby United to gain an unprecedented FA Trophy semi-final slot.

Sammy Igoe and Tim Sills the were the heroes for the underdogs – who were also indebted to a sensational display from keeper Nathan Ashmore in a gutsy 2-1 win on Humberside

Afterwards, Pike refused to get carried away over a potential visit to Wembley, though, insisting it was business as usual for the Privett Park club.

He said: ‘What’s pleasing for me as a manager is that we’ve come away, had a good weekend and got ourselves in the FA Trophy semi-finals.

‘But I’m looking to Tuesday now, we’ve got a big game against Sutton Untied.

‘I was charged with getting us into the Skrill South – and my focus is to keep us in there.

‘That’s where my attention is going to be now.

‘The lads deserve to enjoy tonight, but we’ve still got a big season in front of us.’
