Alex Pike sounded the Gosport Borough battle-cry ahead of their play-off final at Hemel Hempstead and declared: I think we will win by four goals.

Borough booked their placed in the one-legged Southern League premier showdown at Vauxhall Road after their 2-1 success at Stourbridge on Tuesday.

And Pike is convinced his men can gain promotion to Blue Square Bet South on Monday and play alongside the Hawks next season.

Pike said: ‘I said before the play-offs that we would beat Stourbridge 2-0 or 2-1 and then I fancied Hemel beating Chesham so we would play them in the final.

‘Then I said we will beat Hemel by four goals – and I am still feeling that confident.

‘If you look at their record, they are one of the top goal scorers in the league, but they have conceded 72 goals – that is 30 more than we have.

‘We know, with the pace we’ve got in our side, we can hit any team on the break. We know we can get at them.’

While Borough languished at the bottom of the table in the early weeks of the season, Pike insists he always backed his men to come good.

He said: ‘Even after we made such a bad start to the season, I’ve believed in this side all along and I’m just starting to see that same belief in these players all over again.

‘We’ve got the ability, we’ve got the right blend of youth and experience, we’ve got pace in the side, we’ve got loads of goals in us so we have every component we need to win that game.

‘Now we just have to go out and do it. These players are more than good enough to win this game of football.

‘They showed they had the character at Stourbridge and I’m sure they will again.’
