AFC Portchester eased to a 2-0 victory against Bournemouth Poppies last night at Wicor Rec.
Nathan Kirby and Jamie Musselwhite scored in the first half as the home side cruised to a comfortable Wessex League premier division win.
The home side made all the early running and took a deserved 11th-minute lead.
Louie Castles beat his full-back and delivered a fine cross into the box.
Musselwhite latched onto the ball and laid it back for Kirby to score with a low 12-yard drive.
Danny Thompson went close to extending the lead, with a far-post shot that bounced narrowly past the post
The inevitable second goal arrived on 26 minutes, thanks to a poor Bournemouth mistake.
Dan Audin floated in a harmless cross and the Poppies keeper allowed it to slip through his hands, leaving Musselwhite with a simple tap in.
Bournemouth improved at the start of the second half but the best chance fell to Musselwhite who headed over at the other end.
Gary Moody sent a 30-yard drive whistling past the upright as the home side continued to miss chances.
Portchester remained in total charge, though.
Only a combination of dogged defence and poor finishing stopped the home side scoring more goals.
