Graham Rix insists AFC Portchester will keep their feet on the ground against Alresford Town at Wicor Rec tonight (7.45pm).

The Royals made a dream start to the Wessex League premier division season with a 1-0 home win over highly fancied Sholing Sports.

Rix, though, is determined not to let that success go to his players heads.

‘We have to be ready to go again,’ said Rix.

‘Beating Sholing was a fantastic way to start the season and it was the manner of the win that was very pleasing.

‘We thoroughly deserved it and it shows the players just what they are capable of achieving.

‘Alresford are a good side and will be dangerous opponents who we can’t afford to take lightly.

‘We will make sure the players go into it with the right attitude.’

Rix is waiting on the fitness of three players who picked up knocks in the opening game.

Horndean cross the Solent to take on Newport IW looking to build on their excellent 3-2 opening-day win over Blackfield & Langley.

The visitors are boosted by the return of Nick Tayler and Nathan Kirby from suspension.

‘It is never easy travelling to the Isle of Wight in midweek,’ said Carter.

‘A 5.30pm meet to catch the ferry is difficult for some players with their work commitments.’

Fareham Town take on Cowes Sports at Cams Alders (7.30pm).

In the Puma Engineering Hampshire Premier League, Fleetlands host Hamble Club at Lederle Lane (6.30pm).

Paulsgrove entertain Locks Heath at Allaway Avenue (6.30pm).

Baffins Milton Rovers travel to Infinity.
