Rams hope to shift unwanted tag

The Rams currently have the lowest points total of all the clubs across the country at the equivalent of the Southern League division one central level – and they are the only side still to reach double figures in terms of points for the current campaign.

Petersfield are currently on nine points for the season – one point behind Southern League division one south and west bottom side Bridgwater Town.

The side above Bridgwater, Wantage Town, have 13 points and Godalming Town, of the Ryman League division one south, have 15 points at present.

Manager John Robson is hoping his side’s season will finally take off tomorrow with a trip to Ashford Town – which is located close to Heathrow Airport.

His players will be boosted by their performance at Beaconsfield SYCOB last Monday night where they led and then drew level after going behind, eventually losing the match 3-2.

The fact the Rams have scored two goals in both of their last two matches will also boost confidence but they need to cut out the errors which have seen them concede 2.83 goals on average per league game this campaign.

Chairman Graeme Moir said: ‘We certainly don’t want the tag of being the worst team at this level come the end of the season.

‘But the only people who can change that are the players out on the pitch.

‘They continue to show that they have what is needed to get results but as a team they need to put winning performances together now.

‘Monday’s game at Beaconsfield was really positive but hugely disappointing at the same time.

‘There were some very good performances by our players and the opposition said afterwards they could not believe we are bottom of the table after playing the way we did.

‘The season is still about what it was at the start – trying to win at least 10 league matches.

‘We can still do that with 12 games to go – eight wins from those would make it very interesting in terms of trying to get away from the relegation places.

‘If we can stick everything together in our performances that is still possible but for the moment we need to take each game as it comes and the concentration must be on getting three points on Saturday at Ashford.’
