Horndean and Hayling United remain in relegation trouble after suffering home defeats in the Wessex League premier division.

Dave Carter’s Horndean lost out 2-0 against Romsey Town at Five Heads Park after conceding two sloppy goals from free-kicks.

‘Both teams cancelled each other out,’ said Carter.

‘We let in two soft goals.

‘Our final ball let us down and we failed to create clear chances.’

Romsey struck midway through the first half and again in the second to seal the points.

Hayling United manager Steve Poulton blamed a poor first-half performance for his side’s defeat to Bournemouth Poppies.

‘We didn’t get going in the opening 45 minutes and I had to deliver a few choice words at the break,’ said Poulton.

‘That brought an improvement and I thought Bournemouth were there for the taking.

‘In the end, we were unlucky not to get anything.’

Trailing at the interval, the Humbugs hit back through a 65th-minute Aaron Kinchen goal, only to concede a second five minutes later.
