A tired-looking Hawks fell to a 1-0 defeat against Boreham Wood at a sundrenched Meadow Park.

Greg Morgan gave the home side a ninth-minute lead and the visitors, who knew their Blue Square South play-off bid was all but over going into the match, rarely got an effort on target during a scrappy contest.

Super-sub Dan Royce scored the only goal of the game as Bognor stayed top and took another step towards promotion from Ryman one south.

Royce’s strike was enough for the Rocks to earn a 1-0 win at home to Whyteleafe.

Gosport manager Alex Pike was again left scratching his head after Gosport crashed to their 13th defeat on their travels this season in a 2-0 loss at Paulton Rovers.

After two fine home wins, it was hoped they could finally transfer their home form to the road, but goals from Chris Lane and Dan Cleverley put paid to that.

In the Wessex premier division, Fareham thrashed Laverstock & Ford 6-0, with four goals by Graeme Lindsey and one apiece for Nathan Kirby and Jimmy Cuthbert.

But Moneyfields’ poor run of form continued as they went down 3-0 at Alresford.
