Fareham enjoyed a winning start to their Wessex League premier division season with a dominant display at Cams Alders.

Sam Knight struck a brace as the hosts recorded a 2-1 success over Bemerton Heath Harlequins who netted a late consolation penalty through Tom Roberts.

Winchester City and Moneyfields played out a goalless draw to start life with a share of the spoils.

In an even, yet largely uneventful game, it was striker Steve Hutchings who had the best chance for Moneys deep in the second half.

Whitchurch’s Luke Walker did the damage as his hat-trick sent Horndean crashing out of the Wessex League Cup in a 3-0 loss.

AFC Portchester had only themselves to blame after crashing out of the Wessex League Cup at the first hurdle.

Sloppy defending allowed Follands Sports striker Ryan Long to bag a brace and take the newly-named club – last season’s Hamble ASSC – into the draw for the next round of the competition.
