Gosport Borough fought out a 1-1 draw with Ryman premier newcomers Whitehawk in a friendly at Privett Park.
Dan Wooden gave Borough a first-half lead before they conceded a penalty with 15 minutes to go.
‘It was a good work out against the best side we have played this summer,’ said Borough assistant manager Mick Catlin.
‘We played well in the first half and feel we are not too far away from where we want to be.
‘There is still a need to tidy up a bit in defence because we are still gifting goals through errors.’
Wooden latched onto a long ball forward to lob the opener on 20 minutes.
Brett Poate was then adjudged to have made a dangerous high challenge in the box to concede the penalty.
Borough play their final pre-season game tonight against Sholing at Privett Park (7.45pm).
