Michael Appleton insists he can’t wait to take up the challenge at Fratton Park after being unveiled as the new Pompey boss.
The former West Brom assistant has been confirmed as the Blues’ manager at a press conference in the last few minutes.
And he was quick to outline what attracted him to the Pompey hot seat.
He said: ‘It’s a fantastic opportunity for me. Portsmouth is a big football club with a great tradition.
‘It’s a big challenge, but a challenge that the owners and everyone at the club is willing to take up – and I want to be part of that.
‘People say that I haven’t worked as a manager before but a lot of them forget the people I have worked under.’
