Michael Appleton is plotting Pompey’s progress without contemplating the threat of a 10-point deduction.

With club owners Convers Sports Initiatives recently placed in administration, the Football League will meet tomorrow and Pompey’s latest financial predicament will be on the agenda.

While Southampton were deducted 10 points when their parent company were placed in administration, Pompey are hopeful their own circumstances are significantly different to avoid the same punishment.

And Appleton has been told the chances are good that Pompey will not be sent to the bottom of the Championship with a points deduction.

The Blues boss said: ‘We don’t expect to be deducted 10 points.

‘I’m not saying we will not be deducted 10 points but if that did happen, we would deal with it then.

‘We’ll be terribly disappointed if we lose points but I’m not even thinking anything negative from that point of view.

‘We would deal with that if it happens. But I’ve been told that the likelihood of that happening is not as bad as some people think it is.’

While Appleton celebrated his first three-point haul against Coventry at the weekend, he has urged football’s authorities to make the right decision.

He said: ‘I’m not going to go down on my knees and start begging. What will be, will be.

‘From our point of view, we hope the Football League will make a sensible decision on the matter but that’s a decision to be made on the political side of it.

‘I don’t know the full rules and all that type of stuff.

‘The only thing I care about is that we got three points in our last game and we’ve got another tough game to prepare for this weekend.’
