Michael Appleton admitted the belief has drained from his players after assessing Pompey’s 1-0 loss at Reading.
The Blues boss saw his men turn in a relatively-decent defensive display but create virtually nothing at the other end as they slipped to the bottom of the Championship table and saw their winless run extended to seven games.
Appleton said: ‘I’m delighted with the way they played.
‘There was nothing in the game – I think there was one opportunity and we got punished with that.
‘The one thing lacking at the minute is a little bit of belief in the final third and that comes with confidence.
‘We will keep on going, though.’
