Pompey boss Michael Appleton welcomed the prospect of new owners arriving at the club – but he has his doubts over whether a deal will be completed by the weekend, as reports have suggested.

Appleton said: ‘It sounds like the positive news all the supporters, the people of Portsmouth, the players and staff have been hoping to hear for a good few weeks.

‘Whether it’s the 48 hours that have been suggested, I’m not too sure about that but, hopefully, they are good signs and it’s coming towards an end where we can get someone in place as soon as possible.

‘Everyone would be delighted to see someone coming in who can bring strength and stability to the club – not just this season but beyond.

‘Until something is concrete, though, I will continue to do what I am doing.’
