Pompey boss Andy Awford is contemplating ripping up the side which failed at Plymouth Argyle.

The Blues have another opportunity to topple Aldershot Town out of the FA Cup tonight (7.45pm).

They do so still stinging from the dreadful 3-0 defeat at Home Park which yielded so many poor performances from the players.

In the aftermath, Awford admitted he was reassessing the positions of all of his team, particularly with the return of Paul Robinson following suspension.

Pompey are also expected to line-up in a 4-4-2 system, replacing the 4-1-4-1 employed on Saturday.

And the boss has threatened changes to accompany it.

Awford said: ‘Of course there is a temptation to make changes because of the (Plymouth) performance.

‘We’ve looked at every single player and every position.

‘I think I made six changes after Bury because I felt that was needed.

‘If I feel there are six needed again, I will do it. If I feel it should be the same team, I will do it.

‘That’s what I get paid for and it’s my prerogative to do that. I only ever do what I feel is right for the club.

‘I pick the team for that game and hindsight is a wonderful thing – we don’t always get it right.

‘You have to try to learn from the mistakes and that’s what we are trying to do.

‘It’s easy when you are winning to keep picking the same team but sometimes you get beaten and want them to go out and prove they are better than that.

‘Maybe you can allow the odd bad performance.

‘But my issue is that it has been more than the odd result away from home.’
