Andy Awford has explained the reasons behind the exit of Romain Padovani.
The French midfielder yesterday departed Pompey by mutual consent, with 12 months still remaining on his deal.
He made 22 appearances and scored one goal during his maiden campaign in English football with the Blues.
Yet with Awford in the process of overhauling his squad, he believed the 24-year-old’s first-team chances would be restricted – prompting his exit.
‘We have mutually agreed for Romain to move on and I think it is beneficial for both parties,’ said Awford.
‘We had a little chat at the end of last season and I explained to him his playing opportunities would be limited. He’s a lovely lad with a great attitude and I wanted to be straight with him.
‘We shook hands and left on good terms.’
