Andy Awford understood the boos from the Fratton fans after Pompey’s 2-0 home loss to Shrewsbury.

The Blues boss saw his side well beaten by the promotion-chasers after a double from Bobby Grant.

And the home fans voiced their frustrations at the final whistle.

Awford said: ‘I’m as frustrated as anyone.

‘The supporters stuck with us and we appreciate it massively. But they are well within their rights to have their say at the end of the game.

‘The goal seemed to knock the stuffing out of us and belief seemed to drain.

‘We had a good spell in the first 15 minutes of the second half but couldn’t get the goal.

‘But they were the better side and fully deserved their victory.

‘They are one of the better sides we have seen this season and I expect them to be promoted.

‘We need to look at ourselves. Everyone needs to work harder - all of us.’
