Andy Awford was content with his troops as they ended their pre-season campaign today.

Pompey went down to a 2-1 loss to Championship Charlton at Fratton Park this afternoon.

The Addicks provided the ideal dress rehearsal for next weekend’s League Two curtain-raiser at Exeter.

Awford knows there are still rough edges to smooth with the Blues.

But he was perfectly happy with how his side performed and the manner in which they are shaping up for the Grecians clash.

Awford said: ‘I was pleased with how we did.

‘I was pleased with the majority of it, but it wasn’t perfect.

‘It was that was the case we’d be in the Champions League.

‘In the first half the ball was flying around and there was a lot going on.

‘The second half had more of a feel of a pre-season game about it.

‘It was a good test and they have got some good players.

‘It’s all about making sure we are ready to beat Exeter.’
