Andy Awford has admitted his job is under pressure after another Pompey defeat.

The Blues boss stated he takes ‘full responsibility’ for his side’s eight-game winless run after the 2-1 loss to Southend.

Chairman Iain McInnes branded the match with the Shrimpers a ‘must-win’ game in his programme notes.

There were chants of ‘you don’t know what you’re doing’ from the Fratton faithful in the second half when Andy Barcham was replaced by Ryan Taylor.

Awford met some tough questions about his future head on after the game.

He said: ‘I spoke to the chairman on Friday and our relationship is a positive one.

‘All I can do is continue to work as hard as I can.

‘I take full responsibility for not winning games.

‘There’s pressure to win games. That comes with the job.

‘There’s pressure with being first-team manager.

‘But I’ve got a good relationship with the chairman and want to improve things moving forward.’
