Andy Awford thanked Pompey fans for delivering a wall of noise against Hartlepool today.
Fratton Park was at its bearpit best as the Blues delivered a crucial 1-0 survival win in front of a crowd of 15,273.
Pompey responded to the ground reverberating with a ferocious start which yielded Adam Webster’s opener.
Awford has referenced the famous Stockport game on 1998 as the kind of atmosphere he wants to see generated at home games.
And there was shades of that game, as ‘Andy Awford’s blue and white army’ endlessly rang out as Pompey held on through six minutes of stoppage time.
Awford said: ‘I wouldn’t have wanted to be a Hartlepool player playing in that atmosphere.
‘The boys brought into it and look at what we got.
‘It was absolutely brilliant. Fantastic. Everyone – the players, fans and staff. Everyone.
‘That was Portsmouth Football Club pulling together to get three points.’
