Andy Awford slammed the defending which undid Pompey and admitted: It’s not good enough.

Poor play at the back was the key factor in today’s 3-2 defeat to Accrington.

Ben Chorley was caught on the ball in the build-up to Piero Mingoia’s decisive strike.

It typified the Blues’ play on the back foot, and undid them as they looked the team most likely to grab the winner.

Awford said: ‘We’ve made an error for the third goal and it’s undone us.

‘The defending as a unit was not good enough today.

‘There were a couple of errors leading to the third goal.

‘It (the ball) should have gone forward quicker than it did.

‘We’re conceding early. It has to change.

‘We need to put our finger on why it’s happening and put it right.’
