Andy Awford believes Pompey could have run out more comprehensive winners after recording their third successive pre-season victory.
Craig Westcarr netted twice in a six-minute spell at the end of the first-half to settle a 2-0 result over Thurrock last night.
After the break Joe Devera hit the post, Ryan Bird struck the bar and Andy Barcham had a goal ruled out for offside as the visitors pressed.
But they had to settle for the two-goal scoreline at Ship Lane, following on from successes over the Hawks and Bognor.
For Awford, though, the result could have been bigger.
He said: ‘I was really pleased with the lads’ attitude and they stuck at all, which is what you want from pre-season.
‘We should have got a few more though, which is my only criticism.
‘You look back at all our pre-season games so far and you have to say we should have got more goals.
‘But the lads are doing what is asked of them and are controlling games, which is really good.’
