Andy Awford praised the efforts of his players as they signed off the 2013-14 campaign with a 3-3 home draw against Plymouth.

Danny Hollands’ hat-trick put Pompey ahead three times in the game, but Rueben Reid and a Conor Hourihane double ensured the spoils were shared.

Awford said: ‘It was a great reaction and I thought the performance was excellent.

‘To go in front three times and get pegged back three times was a little bit disappointing but I won’t criticise anybody.

‘Even if we had got beaten today, I wasn’t going to come out and criticise anyone.

‘The lads have done superbly for me in the past seven games and I thank them for every effort they have put in.

‘We were still going out to win the game. We should have killed it when we were 3-2 up and they were on the ropes - that was the disappointing thing.

‘We had four or five chances to go 4-2 up and it would have been ‘game over’.

‘But late goals happen and we saw that last week at Bury.’
