Andy Awford was proud of his Pompey battlers following their thrilling 4-4 draw at Bury.
After five straight wins, Awford looked destined for his first defeat in this spell as caretaker boss, with the Blues trailing 4-2 with just three minutes remaining.
But a Sonny Bradley effort was followed by a Wes Fogden leveller in stoppage-time – after earlier efforts from Danny Hollands and Ryan Taylor – to give the visitors a hard-earned point.
Despite a poor first half – and Pompey trailing 3-0 at one point – Awford saluted the manner in which his side responded.
He said: ‘You’ve got to give a lot of credit to the boys.
‘We can’t just skirt over our defending at times – and we won’t – but you’ve got to say a big well done to them for how they’ve responded.
‘We were 3-0 down and then losing 4-2 very late on and to get a point is very satisfying.
‘They are a very good side at home and we should be proud of the way we fought.
‘I thought about going all out in the final few seconds to push for a winner but decided to stay happy with a draw after all the work we’ve done to claw it back.’
