Richie Barker’s reign as Pompey boss is over.
The 38-year-old was relieved of his duties this morning after just four wins in his 20 matches in charge, following his appointment in December with an official statement from the club suggesting the decision had been by ‘mutual consent’
Pompey sit above the League Two relegation zone by just one place with seven games remaining this season.
Alan McLoughlin and Anthony Williams took first-team training this morning but Academy boss Andy Awford has been placed in caretaker charge for the remainder of the campaign.
Pompey are also expected to be chasing loan signings ahead of today’s 5pm deadline.
A statement issued by the club confirmed Barker’s departure.
It read: ‘Richie Barker has left his position as Portsmouth Football Club manager by mutual consent.
‘Following a meeting between Richie and the board, both parties agreed that it was in the best interests of the club.
‘Portsmouth Football Club would like to thank Richie for all his work and wish him well for the future.
‘Andy Awford has been appointed caretaker manager until the end of the season.’
