Richie Barker was left to reflect on more crucial points dropped as Pompey suffered late heartbreak at Exeter.
Jake Jervis’ ninth-minute goal looked to have set them on their way for a second successive victory on their travels.
Yet in the fourth minute of time added on Liam Sercombe struck an agonising St James Park equaliser for the hosts.
It was another blow to the Blues amid a miserable season and, for Barker, the final 1-1 scoreline was hard to take.
He said: ‘We were 40 seconds away from two extra points, which was obviously massive.
‘Gutted really because I felt the players did everything asked of them and I can’t fault them – I thought their attitude was fantastic.
‘I have to say I thought the throw-in they scored from was our throw-in as well and I’m not quite sure where four minutes of injury-time came from as well. It’s tough to take.
‘The positives is four away games unbeaten now so we are becoming tougher to beat on the road – but again it’s another draw.
‘It would have been a massive three points for us against a team around about us, we would have leapfrogged them in the league.’
