Richie Barker insisted he couldn’t fault his players’ commitment after they fell to defeat against York.
Michael Coulson’s fifth-minute goal sent them closer to the relegation zone after Ben Chorley was sent off.
Pompey gave it their all but they ultimately failed to create the chances to pull them back into the game.
Barker said: ‘I can’t fault the players’ efforts.
‘They gave it their all and showed a lot of energy and commitment.
‘The fans could see that, got behind them and stayed with us for 90 minutes.
‘It’s frustrating but we just need something to turn for us.’
Barker had no complaints with the sending-off of skipper Chorley.
‘He said: ‘I thought it was going to end in a red and that’s what happened.’
