Richie Barker admitted his Pompey side are bereft of confidence after his first game in charge.
Barker saw for himself the lack of belief in his newly-inherited team as they fell to a 2-0 defeat to Newport County today.
That stretched the Blues’ winless run to eight games as they fall to 18th in the League Two table – four points from the relegation zone.
Barker felt his team created chances, but knows the size of the task he faces to get his team going.
He said: ‘There were a lot of things which were evident today.
‘I thought we created chances, and probably enough to win the game.
‘But it’s clear that when a goal goes in the team struggles.
‘We looked nervous early on but got on top after that.
‘Once the first goal went in the lack of confidence became quite clear.’
