Joel Ward has vowed Pompey will put their disappointing home defeat right at Barnsley.
The homegrown talent, who is undergoing treatment for a hip flexor injury, was left crushed after his side crashed against Ipswich at Fratton Park on Tuesday.
Ward was determined to give the Fratton faithful something to smile about after the club once again announced its intention to go into administration.
But Michael Appleton’s side fell to a 1-0 defeat after a particularly poor first-half performance.
Pompey’s fans were defiant, however, and delivered a show of force after the game as they made their feelings known about the club’s troubles.
Ward is now gunning to put right that defeat as his team travel to Oakwell tomorrow.
The Tykes have lost eight of their past 11 games – including four defeats in six at home.
The home side also go into the game off the back of two defeats on the bounce as they struggle for form.
Pompey have also shown improving form on the road of late.
A comprehensive success at Peterborough and a strong performance and point at Blackpool was punctuated by a late defeat at Birmingham.
Now Ward wants another strong away display – for the fans.
He said: ‘We want to do them proud. It was disappointing not coming away with the points on Tuesday.
‘But we’ll keep on fighting for them. It’s not over.
‘You can’t look back and dwell on the past. We have to move forward now. We are going to make sure we do that.
‘We will go to Barnsley united as a group and push on.’
