Pompey defender Ben Davies will start for the Blues in tomorrow’s League Two clash with Bristol Rovers (3pm).
That’s after boss Paul Cook confirmed the 34-year-old was handed a rest in last weekened’s 1-0 home loss to Leyton Orient.
Sheffield United loanee Kieron Freeman deputised in Davies’ absence at right-back, making his Blues bow against the O’s.
But fans’ favourite Davies – a former ever-present – will resume his customary right-back role at Fratton Park tomorrow.
Cook said: ‘Ben Davies was just having a rest last week.
‘It was a simple thing, Ben Davies will start tomorrow.
‘At his age, playing the amount of games he has been playing, he knew he was getting a rest.
‘We are coming up to a very tough month in March where Ben will be asked to play a lot more games.’
Cook also revealed Ben Close will continue in his midfield role.
He added: ‘Ben will start tomorrow for sure, because he is such a good young player.’
