Michael Appleton has this morning been sacked as manager of Blackburn.

The former Pompey boss has been shown the door after overseeing Rovers’ slip out of the promotion race and dropping to 18th in the Championship table.

Only a last-gasp equaliser from David Dunn prevented them losing to 10-man and bitter rivals Burnley on Sunday.

Appleton, who had left Pompey for Blackpool in November, stayed at Ewood Park for 67 days and leaves them just four points above the relegation zone.
