Andy Awford praised the key impact of Mick Williams in Pompey’s rebirth.

Williams today stepped down from his role on the Pompey Supporters’ Trust board and position as club director.

Awford believes Williams was a huge factor in keeping the club alive as it fought for its existence.

And the Pompey boss, who Williams was a keen supporter of, spoke of his positive relationship with the director.

Awford said: ‘I heard about Mick resigning last night and read about it today.

‘Mick was a big part of keeping this club alive and becoming the community club it is today.

‘He is a good guy who has been part of the Trust board and sits on the club board.

‘He has gone for his own reasons, but what I will say is he is a good man who I get on with.

‘It’s nice to know he has supported me. He is a good man.’
