Guy Whittingham felt it was a worthwhile workout after seeing his Pompey troops earn a 4-2 win at Bognor in their latest pre-season friendly.

A first-half strike from David Connolly saw the Blues lead at the break before second-half goals from Romain Padovani, Ricky Holmes and Tom Craddock sealed a comprehensive victory.

Whittingham said: ‘I was happy with everything.

‘You will hear a lot of managers saying the same thing at this time of year but it’s all about fitness at the moment.

‘We got another 45 minutes into everybody, we’ve come away with no injuries and scored some decent goals.

‘It was a good crowd and the players are getting fitter all the time and getting to know each other.’
