RYAN TAYLOR believes he’s thriving from Richie Barker’s faith in him.

And the in-form hitman promised Pompey fans he will benefit from the run of games he is being given at Fratton Park.

Taylor has bagged three goals in seven appearances since joining from Bristol City last month.

That’s after making just three starts all season, as he found himself out of favour with the Robins.

A groin injury is threatening that run as Pompey prepare to go to Scunthorpe on Saturday.

But Barker is quietly confident the 25-year-old will beat the problem to be in contention for the game.

Taylor thanked his manager for showing confidence in his talent since he arrived at the club.

He said: ‘I didn’t get a run at the previous club.

‘I’ve had seven starts on the bounce now and three goals, which is not a bad start but I could have had a few more.

‘When you haven’t played for so long it definitely takes a few games to get that match sharpness, so I am getting that.’

Barker has spoken of his confidence there is more to come from Taylor’s partnership up front with Jake Jervis.

Taylor reckons hard work is the reason for their early promise.

He hopes the goals will continue to flow.

He said: ‘It’s six goals between me and Jake, which is not a bad start.

‘But it’s early days yet so we still have some more gelling to do and working on stuff in training every day.

‘Hopefully it will start to pay off on the pitch.

‘As a striker you have got to work hard and me and Jake both try to do that.

‘If we can keep doing it, hopefully we can get on the scoresheet a bit more.’
