Bournemouth face a race against time to host a pre-season friendly with Pompey.
Monday, July 11, has been tentatively pencilled in for the Cherries to host Steve Cotterill’s men.
But ongoing pitch repairs could scupper that fixture.
The Dean Court turf is currently being re-seeded as part of £12,000 worth of ground improvements over the summer.
However, it may not be ready in time for the potential visit of Pompey.
Cotterill had earmarked Bournemouth to be one of the Blues’ pre-season fixtures.
Pompey have already agreed to take on Chelsea at Fratton Park on Saturday, July 16.
But a possible Cherries clash may now have to be scrapped.
Cotterill said: ‘I spoke to Lee Bradbury on Monday and we are waiting to find out if it can go ahead.
‘There is a fixture which has been pencilled in for July 11. That’s the main date that has been talked about.
‘But whether their pitch is going to be ready or not in time, we don’t know.
‘They are having the top taken off the pitch and then it is being re-seeded, which is what we have done with our pitch.
‘But, whereas ours is well under way, theirs has been delayed because of the play-offs.
‘So we’re in a little bit of a quandary over the pitch and whether it will be ready in time and whether we can fit in a game against them.
‘I don’t really know with that one at the moment.
‘We are waiting to see the outcome of that.’
Pompey faced Bournemouth last summer as part of their 2010-11 pre-season programme.
Marc Wilson scored the only goal of the game from the penalty spot.
