Pompey’s poor start to their home season continued as they went down to a 1-0 home defeat to Fleetwood Town.

Sonny Bradley’s unfortunate own goal in the 67th minute sealed the contest to send Pompey to a third home defeat in four outings this season.

Keeper John Sullivan was particularly unlucky as Fleetwood found the winner, having done well to stop Jamille Matt as he bore down on goal, only for the rebound to hit Bradley and trickle into the back of the net.

And once Pompey had gone a goal behind, they had little response as they struggled to test Fleetwood keeper Scott Davies all afternoon.

Pompey could have few complaints at the result against a well-drilled Fleetwood side who look certain to challenge for promotion this season on the evidence so far from this campaign.

An even first half was played out between the sides but it was the visitors who went closest to finding the opener, even though Guy Whittingham restored David Connolly to the side.

Pompey looked good in flashes but were unable to find the final ball and create the clear openings, despite some promising moves.

But once they went behind, they had few answers as they slumped to defeat at Fratton Park once again.
