SOUTHEND boss Phil Brown believes more upheaval is ‘the norm’ at Pompey.

Brown believes the Shrimpers are a picture of stability compared to the team they face at Fratton Park tomorrow night.

And Brown stated he feels Guy Whittingham’s departure this afternoon will have no impact on his side.

He said: ‘This shouldn’t make any difference to our players and I’ll be making that point to them.

‘We’ve prepared well for one of our biggest and most difficult games of the season, and nothing has changed from our point of view.

‘I’ll also be telling the squad that I think this is the norm where Portsmouth are concerned at the moment, and this isn’t an isolated one off incident for them.

‘It’s happened a few times in the past 10 years whereas we’ve had three managers during that time and I think that shows what kind of football club we are.’

Brown added he reckons an upturn in fortunes for Pompey will reflect badly on the squad Whittingham has assembled.

He said: ‘When that happens I think the players need to look at themselves, to be honest.

‘If the form does pick up, like it sometimes does, then I don’t think they can have been trying hard enough for the previous manager.’
