Mark Catlin expects Pompey to unveil their new training ground location within the next fortnight.

The Blues are closing in on a base to replace the Eastney Barracks home they occupied during the second-half of last season.

The chief executive insists there are two venues at the forefront of discussions but remains tight-lipped over their identity.

However, as reported previously by The News, the University of Portsmouth’s Langstone Campus is on the table and is understood to be the certain outcome.

Guy Whittingham and his new-look squad return for fitness testing on Thursday, June 27, although will start pre-season training on Monday, July 1.

And Catlin is encouraged by the progress being made ahead of the players meeting.

He said: ‘I am hoping in the next two weeks we can make an announcement about the training ground.

‘We have two under consideration and are close to pinpointing one of them.

‘As we are at the contract stage it would be unfair for me at this moment in time to quote the location.

‘However, I can say Eastney Barracks are not being considered and there has been a genuine desire to try to stay within the city limits.

‘It has been a case of we took over under six weeks ago and the relevant parties only want to deal with you at that point.

‘Nobody wants to waste their time talking to you before you have the club.

‘Obviously solicitors can also take an age with dotting the i’s and crossing the t’s, so it has been one step backwards, two steps forwards.

‘But we’re getting there and it will be sealed soon.’
