John Sullivan admitted he was at a loss to shed any light on the reasons behind Pompey’s lacklustre Fleetwood showing.

The Blues suffered a 1-0 loss against the high-flying Cod Army on Saturday, Sonny Bradley’s 67th-minute own goal deciding the result.

Sullivan was by far the busiest of the keepers, producing his best display yet since his summer arrival from Charlton.

At the other end, Guy Whittingham’s men struggled to display the attacking potency which has so often been in evidence this season.

It was a desperately disappointing display and Sullivan could not pinpoint why.

He said: ‘They are obviously a good team but we are a good team.

‘You obviously take note of other teams and we watch the videos but unfortunately on Saturday we weren’t just as free-flowing as we have been.

‘Still, when you look at the game, I don’t think we should have come away losing.

‘I am not panicking one bit, it is early days and I know this team can do very well.

‘With the fans behind us as they are, there is going to come a time where everything clicks into place and I don’t think that is too far away.

‘We have played Oxford, Chesterfield and Fleetwood at Fratton Park so far, they are good teams. There are no mugs in this league, there’s no easy games at all.

‘But some days it just doesn’t fall into place. You can’t put your finger on it.

‘Any game of football, you watch any team, sometimes even the top ones in the Premier League and sometimes it just doesn’t click.

‘Maybe Saturday was one of those days.’
