David Connolly today joined Oxford on loan for the rest of the season.
The 36-year-old has fallen out of favour at Fratton Park and been hampered by niggling injuries.
Regardless, fans will be surprised by the development, especially considering the impact Connolly had in his last Pompey game against Mansfield – coming on as a substitute to earn Richie Barker’s side a 1-1 draw.
The former Southampton striker penned a two-year Fratton Park deal in the summer and it’s unclear what will happen to his final year at the end of his Oxford loan.
Meanwhile, Dan Alfei and Marcos Painter are today set to seal new deals at Pompey.
Alfei will extend his loan from Swansea until the end of the campaign, with Painter inking a short-term deal for the same period.
