The Blues beat Hartlepool 2-0 at Victoria Park with goals from Kal Naismith and substitute Conor Chaplin.

But with results elsewhere going against them, it wasn’t enough to keep Cook’s side in contention for a top-three spot in League Two going into their final match against Northampton.

Cook said: ‘We wanted to take it to the last day and unfortunately we haven’t been able to do that.

‘And that is because the teams above us have had fantastic runs. Great credit goes to them teams.

‘We are just a bit disappointed.

‘We have got to regroup, go into the play-offs and see where that takes us.’

The Blues now know they will face Plymouth in the play-offs.

Cook added: ‘It’s going to be a magnificent game.

‘I think it’s good everybody knows that going into the last day.

‘We can now plan for that game.

‘We will just work our way towards the Plymouth game.

‘It will be two full houses at both grounds.

‘It will be a hostile atmosphere at both grounds. It will be a good game, between two good clubs.

‘I don’t think there is a lot between the teams.’
